Kirsty Riddiford

Kirsty Riddiford was born at home in a small village called Norden in Lancashire. At the age of 9, she moved with her family to what was then known as Zululand (now KwaZulu Natal) in South Africa. It was very hot and had miles and miles of golden beaches, and was a very good place to grow up – once you learned to avoid the sharks and the snakes! English and Art were her favourite subjects at school, but she was persuaded by a careers counsellor to study for a business degree – which she did at the University of Natal in Durban. After graduation, she worked as a graduate trainee for a high street bank in Durban, but soon decided that wasn’t for her and left South Africa to go travelling. Three years and five continents later, Kirsty finally settled down to a serious job in finance in the City of London. It was only after she got married and joined her local writers’ group that she rediscovered writing. Her first book took her four years to write, and it was with a huge sense of achievement that she finally wrote those immortal words: ‘The End’ to ‘Ben and the Book of Prophecies’.

Kirsty lives in South West London with her husband and her Labrador, Toby, who features – under the pseudonym ‘Tobias’ – in the ‘Prophecies of Ballitor’ series.
